Parvus Introduces Next-Generation 802.11 Wi-Fi Hotspot Solution for Public Bus and Private Coach Operators: RiderNet3 Enables Public Transportation
SALT LAKE CITY (BusinessWire EON) August 21, 2007 -- "In today's 'connected' world, Internet access onboard rapid transit and express bus routes is becoming more commonplace for the business professional, student, or anyone who wants to convert his or her commute into productive time," said Parvus' Director of Transportation Programs, Andrew Hunt. "Passengers surveyed by transit authorities clearly indicate that this amenity is a major motivation for them to keep riding the bus. RiderNet3 gives transit operators an affordable, reliable way to equip their fleet with Wi-Fi to retain valuable customers and increase ridership."
Parvus' third-generation transit Wi-Fi(R) solution, RiderNet3, provides a turn-key solution that bundles all needed equipment (router, modem, antennas, cabling) and managed services, including cellular airtime, technical support, remote system monitoring, 1-800 user phone support service, usage reporting and content filtering. Users can easily check email, visit websites, and use VPN connections at broadband speeds (averaging 400-700kbps) from any Wi-Fi-enabled laptop or PDA.
Especially suited for the harsh bus environment, RiderNet3 incorporates a rugged hardware design that eliminates the use of less-reliable consumer cellular Aircards(R). A host of standard and optional services are bundled with the RiderNet3 hardware to simplify installation, maintenance, and management, as well as minimize operators' total cost of ownership. RiderNet product deployments are managed by Parvus through standard monthly service agreements. From its Network Operations Center in Salt Lake City, Parvus monitors and tracks all fielded systems as well as performs top-level troubleshooting.
